Future Group has reached an agreement with WTW (formerly Willis Towers Watson) to acquire its superannuation licensed entity, Stewarda. Stewarda is a subsidiary company of WTW and holds an APRA Extended Public Offer RSE licence allowing it to act as trustee for multiple superannuation funds. This acquisition will support Future Group in the next stage of its growth journey. Future Group will seek to leverage the strong history of WTW’s superannuation trustee business in its future governance model. The transaction is subject to APRA approval.
Stewarda will be chaired by Jeremy Cooper. As a former Deputy Chair of ASIC (2004-2009) and the Chair of the Super System Review (2009-2010), Mr Cooper is a preeminent thought leader on the design, operation and future direction of the Australian superannuation sector. Mr Cooper will be joined by a majority independent board with exceptional experience across superannuation governance.

Commenting on the acquisition, incoming chair Mr Cooper said: “I am delighted to take on the role of chair for Stewarda. I look forward to steering a talented group of people with a focus on both financial and sustainability outcomes for members."
In addition to Mr Cooper, Future Group announced that Sarah Burley will take on the role of Head of the Office of the Superannuation Trustee (OST). Ms Burley brings more than 20 years’ experience in financial services, having held senior roles across retail and industry superannuation funds as well as the prudential regulator. With deep expertise in strategy and governance, she has supported boards and executive teams through periods of change while maintaining a strong focus on member outcomes.. She previously held a range of senior leaderships roles at AustralianSuper leading functions across strategy, planning, product and commercial analysis.
